Promising Effects of Stem Cell Treatment on Cerebrovascular Disease
This treatment promotes the recovery of damaged blood vessels and the generation of new blood vessels to restore blood flow and to suppress inflammation. It thus prevents the worsening of symptoms and is expected to improve symptoms of cerebrovascular disease.
Clinical trials with bone marrow-derived stem cells have reported improved survival rates and symptom improvement after stroke. This photo shows the area of a brain damaged by stroke observed by MRI before and after treatment with bone marrow-derived stem cells. It can be seen that the lesion site (white area) shrunk over time after the treatment. (Honmou O et al., Brain. 2011 Jun; 134 (Pt 6): 1790-807)
